Abstract

In Costa Rican schools there is a high prevalence of intestinal parasitic diseases, which have an impact on health, physical and cognitive development problems. The objective: To determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites in school age children and their relationship with academic performance; Materials and methods: Non-experimental / transactional study with 29 children, faecal samples were analyzed using a direct method; fresh exam. Results: of the 29 samples analyzed, only 7% of the samples showed the presence of cysts of: Iodameba butschlii (33.33%), Endolimax nana (33.33%), and Blastocystis hominis (33.33%). Conclusion: there is no evidence of its relationship with academic performance. However, other criteria must be evaluated.
