Abstract

The STEM education model (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) is being adopted at all educational levels, as a way of promoting the required competencies for future job market.  The STEM model has multiple benefits, such as the acquisition of critical, analytical, quantitative, and creative skills, as well as solution design, not only from the perspective of the specific disciplines that it represents, but also in an integrated manner.  The educational model of Universidad San Marcos incorporates, in its essence, active learning strategies which are compatible with STEM activities, and promote inquiry-based learning, problem solving, project design, and the generation of value-added proposals related with the context.  This article analyzes these points of convergence and highlights the importance of STEM activities in all disciplines of study.
